No Longer Noisy
This is the second Whole Basement dehumidifier we've purchased. The first was a Santa Fe that died at less than four years, like a lot of others have experienced. It worked very well, but the repair would have been halfway toward the price of this one, so we bought the AprilAire 1710. It works just about as well and brought the humidity down 10% in the first hour and 20%, (where I had it set) within 24 hours. It removes a LOT of water, but runs more than the Santa Fe did. My big complaint is the noise! It sounds like a V-8 engine down there and I think it may rattle itself to death.

Our bedrooms are on the second floor and the noise doesn't reach up there, but the dining and living rooms are right above it and you definitely have to talk over it and turn the TV volume up.

My bottom line is I couldn't recommend it to someone if noise would be a factor, but if you were going to have it in an out-of-the-way area it does do a very good job of keeping the basement...
